For the past twenty four (29) years, Mr Tlhabane has worked within government, NGO and Business environments assuming various positions of leadership. Since 1993 to date, he has worked at middle, senior and executive management levels. He has served in various strategic committees including the interprovincial committee on MST, the Tender and Procurement Committee, Bid Evaluation Committees, CEOs Committee the National Science Week Committee and the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) located within the Department of Science and Technology. Decisions made at these committees were critical in advising the Heads of Departments and the Minister of Basic Education and the Minister of Science and Technology. He has had the privilege of turning around several institutions, schools, government sub-directorate, NGO’s, from levels of under-performance to high performing institutions. He has the experience of developing and maintaining business relationships with a wide range of agencies and organisations within the civil, private and public sectors as well as people from varying multicultural backgrounds.

 

He has occupied the following positions in government, NGO and private sector: Mathematics Teacher, Head of Department, Deputy Principal, School Principal, Chief Education Specialist, Chief Executives Officer and now Chief Director with the Department of Basic Education.

Dr. Babajide A. Adelekan is an agricultural engineer and the immediate past Provost of Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Nigeria. As the Chief Executive, he led the college to robustly fulfill its mandates within the larger context of advancing tertiary agricultural education and practice in Nigeria. He is currently spearheading the efforts aimed at upgrading and modernization of academics and research programs in the college through the integration of Artificial Intelligence approaches into the mix. He is also involved in finding pathways for integrating Artificial Intelligence approaches into Agricultural Engineering research and practice, which is his primary field.

Prior to founding Tsogolo Technologies, Dickson’s career focused on IT infrastructure and worked for Accenture as a cloud migration consultant. Dickson holds a Masters of Commence focused in Information Systems from University of Cape Town. Chanille Viviers is currently the Director of the EduTech centre at Steyn City School in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she leads the integration of Technology and Innovation using the 21st Century Learning Design

She is an MCE, a Microsoft Innovative Expert, a MIE Fellow, a Global Minecraft Mentor and a Skype Master. Her students collaborate with other students from all over the world to come up with solutions for peace and prosperity within their community and the planet in Global partnerships.

She has led her team to become a Microsoft Showcase school where she has been instrumental in guiding teachers and students to implement Remote Learning best practice using Microsoft Teams, Flipgrid and Wakelet.

She has presented at several conferences, both at home and abroad, and her area of expertise is using immersive technologies like Virtual- and Augmented Reality to enhance learning as well as AI with XinaBox and Azure ML, where our students have also participated in the AI for good project, that focuses on using AI to address some of Unesco’s SDGs.

She has won several awards including the National Teachers’ Award for Excellence in Education, the Statham trophy for Excellence in Education and her team won the International Award for Inclusion during the Global Educator Challenge in Paris, France in April 2019 using the Immersive Reader in Minecraft to make learning more accessible for all students. She is also a qualified Educational Psychologist.

Growing up in rural Limpopo Province, South Africa, Wynand Espach has always had a love for soil and agriculture and a passion for education and the people of the African continent. After completing his studies, Wynand was naturally drawn back to the rural Limpopo town of Tzaneen. Here he joined Amorentia Estate where he started as nursery assistant and worked through the ranks to where he now serves as Managing Director, just over 17 years later.

The developmental challenges of farming, education, training and rural development has driven Wynand and the team at Amorentia to become a beacon of excellence in the farming community. Their diversification as a small farm has been inspirational to many other farmers in the district.

Wynand has served as the Chairman of the Board of Thlalefa School for 14 years. The school was established in 1983 by Howard Blight on the farm Amorentia Estate, and serves the rural area of Politsi Valley and caters for children of farm labour. The school has been nominated the best rural school in Limpopo Province on a number of occasions.

Wynand was a Shareholder and Co-founder of a large agricultural enterprise in Mozambique that created huge employment opportunities and uplifted an entire community between 2009 and 2015.

Together with Howard Blight, owner of Amorentia Estate, Wynand then co-founded AGRICOLLEGES international and in 2018, Wynand was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of AGRICOLLEGES international.

My professional career started in 1981 when I qualified as a mathematics and physical education teacher.  I became department head in 1985 and in 1992 principal of a primary school.   During my teaching years, I attended night school to obtain my BA and B Honours degrees at the University of Pretoria.  In 1997 I completed my Masters in Education, resigned teaching and pursued a career that would give me opportunities to educate with technology. 

As a consultant, a challenging project to design and develop training for warehouse workers, led me to enrol and complete my Doctorate degree at the University of Pretoria in 2007.  As a result of my e-learning expertise, I joined UTi Worldwide in 2010 to integrate and support e-learning for global employees.  Started own company – HBM Edu Tech – in 2014.  Our mission is to help organisations, training companies and education institutions to establish their “Own Online Academies”.

Agustin Porres is a professional trained in Education and Public Policies. He has many years of working experience in the public sector in Argentina, the United States and several education foundations in Latin America.

As of 2016, he is part of Varkey Foundation where he holds the position of Latin America Regional Director. Varkey Foundation is a global organization aimed at training and empowering teachers as well as increasing the value of their role around the world.

In addition, he was part of Fundación Contemporánea for 17 years where he served as Director of Education Policies and coordinated the Education area.

With regard to the public sector, he served as an official for the City of Buenos Aires Ministry of Environment team. Then, he was an official for the City of Buenos Aires Ministry of Education and finally Chief of Staff in ANSES. His main project and challenge there was to enhance the processes for 16 000 employees training them for a new management model and reducing the absenteeism rate.

During his first professional years, he continued teaching several subjects as a member of several school and university faculties.

He holds a graduate degree in Philosophy and a postgraduate degree in Politics, Government and Administration at the Catholic University of Argentina. In turn, he took a Master of Public Policy at Georgetown University, McCourt School of Public Policy, in Washington. In the United States, he lived for more than 2 years where he studied, worked and also founded the Latin America Policy Association.

He currently lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina with his wife and 2 kids.

Danny Arati

Danny is responsible for BeCREO Technologies’ strategic direction and for engagements at institutional level, with a particular focus on the education sector. This includes the establishment of collaborations to support research, projects and policies to facilitate the deployment of inter-active and game based approaches in education, in full alignment with 21st Century Learning and Teaching. Prior to joining BeCREO Technologies, Danny worked for 17 years at Intel Corporation, where he spent most of his time as the Education Manager for Europe. There, he oversaw the creation, adaptation and localisation of teacher training programmes under the ‘Intel Teach’ umbrella; he also worked closely with ministries of education and other agencies to promote changes in school policies and curricula. In collaboration with universities, he promoted research into usage models of new technologies in the classroom. Having gained an initial experience as a language teacher, he completed an MA in Mass Communication Research at the University of Leicester. He holds a BA in Literature, Philology and Journalism from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. A fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, Danny is also a Senior Examiner for the International Baccalaureate.

Michelle’s team has made an impact on communities through the iSchoolAfrica programme. The iSchoolAfrica programme takes mobile iPad labs preloaded with content and facilitators into disadvantaged communities, through establishing corporate and government sponsorships. iSchoolAfrica currently operates in over 200 rural and township schools and 3000 teachers and 100 000 students have had the opportunity to engage with technology through this programme.

She has a wealth of both local and international experience in the Energy, Oil and Gas and Financial Services industries. She has impressive exposure in both consulting and leading creative, customised and learner-centric development functions, in environments fraught with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.  

Yasirah enjoys getting actively involved in designing customised learning solutions as well as managing the learning function’s outcomes. She has experience in managing cross-geography, virtual learning teams which stands her in good stead in her current role as Group Technology Head of Learning at Standard Bank Group, as the Group seeks to grow technology capabilities across the African continent.  Yasirah stepped into the Group’s Human Capital team at a time when managing learning and transitioning skills to be future ready has never been more important, bringing with her thought leadership and visionary learning-solution experience. Engela Franken was born and bred in Pretoria where she completed her BAedMus degree at the University of Pretoria.
 
After teaching at various schools for a couple of years, she decided to swop the piano keyboard for a computer keyboard and completed a Diploma in Computer Science at UNISA. She started lecturing in 2005 at Gert Sibande TVET College (Mpumalanga) where she played a key role in the establishment of an eLearning Unit at the College. In her quest to improve student and lecturer performance through teaching and learning with technology, the unit has developed a Content Management System called Khuphula, built on the SAKAI model.
 
As Head of the eLearning Unit Mrs Franken initiated and organised two ICT Conferences for TVET colleges and received the 2014 annual award from DHET for EXCELLENCE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION.
 
Mrs Franken recently completed her Master’s degree in Computer Integrated Education at the University of Pretoria. Today, she will be sharing some of her research study’s findings and recommendations, with the topic “The implementation of open learning in the South African TVET college sector”.

Trueman Mabumbo is an 18-year old Zimbabwean. He is the founder and CEO of Dzidzo Paden|Imfundo Endlini (loosely translates to Learning at home), a non profit organization in Zimbabwe distributing academic resources to students across Zimbabwe via an automated WhatsApp based chatbot. Trueman is passionate about leveraging technology to solve societal problems and neutralising the disparities that exist particularly within the educational space. He partnered with UNESCO and the local examinations board in order to push for more equality in education through provision of resources through a more accessible and affordable platform in WhatsApp. 

He is currently studying Upper 6 at St. George’s College, a private school in Zimbabwe. He is interested in robotics and electronics. In his free time he likes to podcast and host progressive discussions on how to build Africa.
